Alkonost is a Russian folk-metal band founded in 1995. The band is well known with metal fans in Russia, but also in Northern Europe they’re known. The albums are available with English titles, the lyrics on the contrary are in real Russian. In 2007 the band played outside Russian for the first time and in the Ukraine, Bulgaria, Slovakia and Czech republic they had a warm welcome.
The lyrics are based on Russian heathen tales and mythology, the melodies are based on Russian folk, but the riffs come directly from power-metal, death-metal and symphonic metal. This causes them to be counted as a doom as well as a folk-metal bands. The big breakthrough came when Alkonost signed with Metalism Records and they recorded their second album “Alkonost” in 2002
